Moyes: “The best team won"
The Viola dominated for almost the entire game and late goals from Zdravko Kuzmanovic and Riccardo Montolivo deservedly gave them a 2-0 win.
Speaking afterwards, Everton boss David Moyes expressed disappointment that his side failed to perform when it mattered. "We’ve got a mountain to climb now," the Scot admitted. Best Team Won “The best team won and (our) performance was not good, although Fiorentina did play really well. We did not start particularly well and that gave the initiative to them. "It’s going to be a big job now for us - certainly on this performance it will be very difficult," he added of the return leg at Goodison. "We will have to do much, much better and Fiorentina were very strong in all departments.” Poor Collective Indeed, Everton were a shade of their usual selves and were it not for a string of fine saves by Tim Howard the deficit could have been even greater. “Some of the players didn’t play to their potential, that’s for sure," said Moyes. "In fact the majority did not. We did not get up to the pace of the game at any time and both goals could have been avoided. It was very disappointing.” |
