SPL Weekend Preview: Round 13
Saturday 10 November (all times local)
15:00 Dundee Utd - Kilmarnock 15:00 Gretna - Hibernian 15:00 Inverness CT - Motherwell Sunday 11 November 15:00 Hearts - Aberdeen Dundee Utd - Kilmarnock The Arabs are the surprise package in the Scottish Premier League so far this season. Although not always pretty on the eye, Craig Levein's men are well organised and disciplined. That discipline dissolved last week, however, as they finished with nine men in a 2-0 defeat at Aberdeen. Captain Barry Robson and giant defender Lee Wilkie are therefore suspended for this tie. A win would bring United level on points with the inactive Rangers, and both players will be missed as the team look to preserve an unbeaten home record. Visitors Kilmarnock will be looking to bounce back after losing 2-1 at home to Celtic despite a spirited display. Currently lying in 7th place, Killie need results at venues like Tannadice if they have top six ambitions. Gretna - Hibernian Gretna's last home match ended in humiliation. Not only were they thumped by Inverness, their record low SPL attendance was widely condemned. A 2-0 defeat away at Falkirk last week did little to raise spirits. Those two defeats at the hands of fellow strugglers have left the SPL newcomers 6 points adrift at the foot on the table with a mere 4 points. The visit of high-flying Hibernian should bring more fans to Gretna's temporary Fir Park home. Like Dundee Utd, this entertaining Hibs side can equal Rangers on 25 points with victory here. They come into thisone after a hard fought 1-1 home draw with bitter Edinburgh rivals Hearts last Sunday. Influential midfielder Guillaume Beuzelin showed no ill effects lastweek after his quick return from injury, and will be the key to unlocking a cagey Gretna. Inverness CT – Motherwell Craig Brewster's Caley Thistle are showing signs of improvement during his second spell as boss of the Highland club. However, they still have fewer points than they have played games, with 10 points from the first 12 matches. Player-manager Brewster is still out with a troublesome shoulder injury, and will again hope Romanian striker Marius Niculae can lead the line effectively. Inverness are yet to draw a home game, while Motherwell are yet to share the points on their travels. Reinvented under Mark McGhee this season, 'Well will go for the jugular against a leaky Caley Thistle defence with the third worst defensive record in the league. source:goal.com |
