Marseille Eye Unsettled Buffel
Buffel signed for Rangers in 2005 for £2.8 million from Dutch side Feyenoord, but as of late has been out of favour with the Scottish club.
Much of that is down to the change of manager at Ibrox; Alex McLeish, who signed the player, soon left to manage the national team. Water Smith (pictured) then took over and has not favoured the playmaker since. He has made just two appearances this season and is reportedly desperate for a move away from the club. Experienced Belgian manager Eric Gerets is rebuilding his Marseille side and is seemingly keen on having a fellow countryman in his ranks, and Buffel fits the bill. The fee currently being reported is around £1.2 million, and the player's agent Paul Courant has affirmed that an agreement is close to being met between the two parties. “We have had some contact with Marseilles over recent weeks," stated Courant. "It is a place for Thomas to think about and I know Eric Gerets very well. “They are a big club who were in the Champions League this season, so it could be an interesting option but there could be something in Germany as well.” Buffel has been capped 29 times by Belgium, scoring six goals. source:goal.com |
