Burley To Be Appointed As Scotland Manager

Alex McLeish resigned from his post after failing to qualify for the 2008 European Championships, though his side heroicly ran World Cup finalists Italy and France right to the wire.
He replaced Steve Bruce at Birmingham City, and since then the Scottish FA have struggled to find a replacement to match McLeish.
There was an ongoing saga linking Graeme Souness to the job that has now seemingly come to an end, Celtic's Tommy Burns was also linked with the job, but George Burley remains the front-runner, and a deal is now imminent.
There had been dispute over a compensation fee that would be owed to Burley's current club, Southampton, but due to the Scottish manager's failure to guide the south-coast club to promotion last season, there is reported eagerness to replace him at St. Mary's regardless, and therefore they may not be so stringent with the payment of the fee.
A source from the Southampton boardroom reportedly spoke to Sportsmail confirming that the club are ready and waiting on the SFA.
"If the SFA want George, they now have to put up or shut up," said the source.
"We wouldn't be hard to deal with because there is disillusion amongst our supporters with the failure to win promotion.
"However, neither can we be left short should we need to pay for a new manager to come in from another club.
"Our message to the SFA when they called was: 'If you want George, make us an offer.'"
Rumours are circulating that Billy Davies, sacked as coach of Derby earlier this season and also a candidate for the Scotland job, may take over at Southampton if Burley departs.
