Vasilevski and Pace Pen New Contracts At Melbourne Victory
The duo progressed from the Victorian Premier League (VPL) to the A-League, where they debuted for the Victory last season. Both Vasilevski and Pace will also feature for Melbourne in the upcoming AFC Champions League group stage. The club will play against K-League side Chunnam Dragons at Telstra Dome next month.
Midfielder Vasilevski, 26, is delighted to have been given an opportunity to play in the A-League with the Victory for the next two seasons. He said: "I had a good second half of last season and I worked my way into the team and worked really hard. I was at Perth Glory in the first year of the A-League and it didn't really work out for me, so I went into the VPL and did the hard yards and played well. "And I've got my rewards now with a new two year deal." Pace came into prominence for the Victory when he filled into the position of central defence following an injury crisis at the club. But the defender himself suffered an injury after breaking his leg in the second-half of the final A-League match of the season against Sydney. "Pace came into the dreaded position of central defender for us, which is a bit of a curse, because we lost Daniel Piorkowski, so he came in as an injury replacement," said Victory football operations manager Gary Cole. "He again has done a good job, until he broke his leg about 10 minutes into the second half against Sydney. He did an amazing job to get through that and he'll be right for the AFC Champions League campaign after Match Day Two." Meanwhile, the Victory have settled on the foreigners who will play in the Champions League. The AFC only allow three import players for the competition. Former Chelsea trainee Joseph Keenan will miss out while Carlos Hernandez, Grant Brebner and Leandro Love have been registered. "We've got four visa players in total for the Hyundai A-League and only three allowable in the AFC Champions League, so we've gone for the most attacking group that we can and Joseph misses out," Cole explained. source:goal.com |
