Luis Fabiano: We Have The Quality To Beat Madrid

Luis Fabiano has told As that he firmly believes that he's beginning to recapture his Sao Paulo form with Sevilla.

"My first year was very difficult but now, after the second one, I feel more comfortable," he said.

"We've won five titles in 15 months, which was fantastic. This Sevilla team is fabulous."

However, it was a long time in coming, as the 26 year old Brazilian has endured a tough career both on and off the pitch.

"I started out with Stade Rennais in France, but I was very young, just 17 years old.

"I didn't like playing there; it was so hard to adapt, and the language was tough. So I returned to Brazil, with Sao Paulo.

"It was there that I learned to be a more complete player, alongside Kaka, who was part of a very impressive team.

"But I left because, due to bad economic factors, Sao Paulo had to sell all their best players.

"And at Porto I had a very difficult time; in my personal life, my mother was kidnapped for two months.

"But thank God it worked out with no problems. My mother's still very scared, and still in Brazil, albeit with her family nearby."

Fabiano went on to reveal that Real Betis had once made an offer for his services, only for Sao Paulo to turn them down, before discussing his contract woes.

His current deal runs out in 2009 and is not to Luis' satisfaction, meaning that he's destined for showdown talks with president Del Nido.

"We've not spoken yet, but I'll bring the subject up calmly," he confided.

Luis Fabiano declared his admiration for new coach Manolo Jimenez, and pledged to keep working hard to keep his place.

"Striking position? Yes, there's much competition here and we all need to take our chances," he agreed.

"A team like Sevilla should have plenty of talented strikers.

"As for Real Madrid, that's an important match. We need to win to stay near the top.

"It'll be tough, but we have plenty of quality. Robinho's in great shape and we need to be careful."

Fabiano arrived in Andalucia from Porto in 2005.
