Bilbao Demand Action Against Bottle Throwing Incident
Bilbao Stopper Armando was struck in the face with a water bottle thrown from the crowd just past the seventy-minute mark of the game.
The keeper was taken off on a stretcher and had stitches for a cut just below his right eye, while referee Carlos Clos Gomez stopped the game with around 18 minutes left to play. Betis released a press statement that the accused will be banned from all the matches at Estadio Manuel Ruiz de Lopera. "The club wishes to confirm to the the supporters and to the public in general that the aggressor, who carries the initials C.P.R., is not associated with Real Betis Football Club and was immediately detained by the stadium security, who have declared that he will be denied entry to the ground for any sporting events," their statement read. "We want to thank the supporters for their immediate response in helping to identify the offender and for stopping him from making a getaway." The Spanish Football Federation are certain to be investigating the incident followed by demands from Bilboa to take action against Betis, as this is not the first incident of violence at the Estadio Manuel Ruiz de Lopera. Last season, Ex Sevilla coach Juande Ramos, was knocked out after being hit by a bottle thrown from the stands during a King's Cup quarter-final match there. Video: [ame= |
