Wenger Keen To Top Group H
Arsene Wenger has spoken of his keenness that Arsenal win their Champions League Group H.
The Gunners have already booked their spot in the last 16, but the Frenchman sees a certain prestige in finishing in topping the group and as such has vowed to go out in search of the victory at Sevilla this week. Arsenal breezed past the Spanish outfit 3-0 on Matchday 1, and another three points on Tuesday would ensure their status as group winners with a game to spare. "It is important - we want to finish first, it gives you a little advantage in the draw and it gives you another advantage because it gives you the second game at home in the knockout stages, so we would like to take that advantage of course," said Wenger at the Gunners' pre-match press conference. "We are also a team who are on a good run and we want to keep that going, and we know that is very, very important. I think it is possible to have a good result tomorrow," continued the Frenchman, whose side have notched three wins and a draw from their first 4 Champions League group games. Europe's Form Side Arsenal are undoubtedly one of the finest sides in Europe at present. Besides their impressive tally of 11 goals without reply in the Champions League, the Gunners also top the Premier League by 3 points and have yet to suffer a single defeat. Asked for the reasons behind Arsenal's success this season, Wenger kept things simple. "We try to give our best in every game. I love to work with this team, they are really hungry and humble. They show that in every game and as long as we maintain these two qualities we have the chance to win the next game, which is what you want to achieve." Team Changes A hectic schedule of both club and international football has prompted Wenger to save several players for the weekend's more meaningful Premiership match at Aston Villa. Gallas and Adebayor have not travelled to Spain, nor have injured pair Clichy and Van Persie. However, Cesc Fabregas - suspended at the weekend - returns to face his countrymen, while Flamini and Gilberto have shaken off a knock and fatigue respectively. Philippe Senderos has also recovered from his back troubles. The inevitable rotation that will ensue provides an opening for young Danish striker Nicklas Bendtner. "I want to give him a chance," explained Wenger. "Mathieu Flamini will travel. I wanted to start him, but we do not have good indications from training today. We will see tomorrow." source:goal.com |
