Injured Shevchenko Left In London
Chelsea have revealed that striker Andriy Shevchenko has not travelled to Athens with the rest of the squad to face Olympiakos in the Champions League because he is not yet considered fully fit following the back injuries that have blighted his season so far.
Shevchenko did make an appearance as a substitute during the second-half of the Blues' 3-1 FA Cup win over Huddersfield Town on Saturday, but is clearly not regarded by the club as ready yet for the demands of Champions League action. However, Didier Drogba, who missed training at the end of last week, as well as the Huddersfield win on Saturday because of a knee problem, has gone to Athens. Drogba joined Michael Ballack, manager Avram Grant's other injury worry, on the flight. The squad arrived in Athens late on Sunday night after being forced to circle the airport for two hours because of snow. However, the Greek weather is forecast to improve before the match. source:goal.com |
