Roma vs Manchester United: Preview
After missing the action against Aston Villa due to a groin injury, Edwin van der Sar was seen in the team which travelled to Italy and is set to feature in the mouth watering clash where Roma will be charged up take a revenge on the red devils.
Michael Carrick, Patrice Evra, Rio Ferdinand and Giggs were also included and there was a surprise addition Mikael Silvestre which was out since September due to a knee ligament injury. Nani will not trvel to Italy due to a thigh strain. Ahead of the first leg clash Man united have no major concerns and their squad is in great form and are raring to go at Roma. Scholes has hailed team mate Christiano Ronlado as the best player he has played along. Though Scholes has played along the likes of Eric Cantona, Roy Keane, Mark Hughes, David Beckham and present team mate Giggs he still rates Ronaldo as the best. This fixture will be the 99th Champions League appearance for Scholes. Speaking about Ronaldo he said "Cristiano has to be at the top now, purely for what he has done this season. Scoring the amount of goals from his position has been nothing short of amazing" "It is not just that, though, it is the way he makes chances and the threat he poses to other teams.'' This comes as no surprise as Ronaldo has not only scored in domestic matches but has also netted six times in seven matches and will be looking to add few more to his impressive tally of 35 this season. Man United manager Sir Alex Ferguson will be betting on his talisman to maintain his goal scoring form which has been a huge threst to opposition and will be important to secure glory at home and abroad. Meanwhile Roma Coach Spalletti is determined that his team will overcome the absence of their inspirational captain Francesco Totti who was ruled out due to a thigh injury. He believes his team has enough quality to tame the red devils, whom he rates as the "best in the world''. "I have a lot of confidence in my players, who I am sure will take on more responsibility as they have done in the past when we have played without Totti.'' Mirko Vucinic will be replacing his skipper and Spalletti is confident that the forward is determined and ready for the job. But Roma will surely miss their creative force in front of goal due to absence of their talisman, Marco Cassetti, Cicinho, Daniele De Rossi, Max Tonetto, Mirko Vucinic all play with the risk that if they are booked they will miss the next fixture and UEFA have threatened to move the 2009 Champions League final from Rome's Stadio Olimpico if they find any violence against Man United Fans |
